A dream trip to London!

Standard

No, Sadly, I am not giving away a free trip to London… although that would be really cool…perhaps when I have made my first ten million from movie rights on the books… (This is a dream post after all…)

This next series of posts are about how I would spend my adventure next year if money were not really an object.  I mean let’s be honest you could drop a few million a day in London Town, but even my imagination is not that wild.  So, here is the break down of what I would do and how much this would cost.  Because I love dropping my jaw over ridiculously expensive things. (It’s an American tradition on kin with Pumpkin pie and Turkey!)

Today’s post, the plane ride and my first week in hotels!

Brit hostessFirst off, I am sad to hear that there are no longer direct flights from Denver to London.  British Airways used to fly one a day, I suppose back when things were more plush, and I had the liberty of taking that flight twice. Sigh… So a first class ticket from Denver to London May 1st to August 1st, with a stop over in Chicago for two hours, where you can hang out in the fancy lounge at least, is…

$11,000

Excellent.

Now when I get to London I am going to want to enjoy the various five-star establishments of this city, because if you can afford it, hotels in London are second to none. So let’s do a tour of some of the finer spots, say two nights a pop?

Savoy  I’m going to start at the Savoy.  Why?  Because it’s the Savoy!  Further more one of my favorite bands, Duran Duran, once did a video there with a bunch of supermodels and it was brilliant and scandalous, (What!  A DD video that’s Notorious!?  Shocker!) and it made me want to run around that hotel in black haute couture, spilling champagne everywhere!  If you haven’t seen the video, do. (I believe Bob Dylan did a very famous video outside this hotel as well, but I have never been a big fan.)

$1800

Hotel 41Next up would be Hotel 41, currently the highest rated hotel in London.  It’s right across the street from Buckingham Palace and looks like something the old school M from the classic Bond movies would hang out at.  Further more they have a very generous complementary evening snack board that looks better than anything I’ve ever had in my fridge.  Finally, the rooftop bar is to die for… One I will be sure to save up for a drink at no matter what sort of budget I am on.

$980

DorchesterNext up The Dorchester.  I think I could live here for a few months if I tried, it looks like one of those hotels, like the Plaza, or at least what used to be the Plaza in New York, where one could come down every morning and be greeted by the staff and find all sorts of interesting people to talk too.  I would choose the Harlequin Suite, where Elizabeth Taylor used to stay and found out about her starring role in Cleopatra!  It’s a roof top suite affording amazing views and can be had for the very ridiculous price of…

$40,000! (This would be where Accountant Dad would fall over dead.)

Finally, while there are so many wonderful hotels to stay at in this amazing cosmopolitan town, I think you could stay a night in each one for a year and never get through them all, I have to choose a standard favorite and all around epitome of luxury…

RitzThe Ritz-Carlton, aka The Daddy of them all!  Yeah, I will never in my wildest dreams get to stay in this palace, but I will have a tea there no matter what, so I offer a picture of the famous tea room.  In the mean time feast your eyes on this price…

$2,400!

This is actually a bargain as it includes Breakfast, rose petal turn down, Tea for two and a 30 minute massage.  I’m thinking this is a great treat for my first  ‘I wrote it movie premiere’ in London.  I’ll just add that to the spoil me lifestyle list…

So, after the first week and round trip airfare, and BEFORE taxes, which are of course, astoundingly expensive to us Americans, my little dream jaunt thus far is going to look like…

$56,180!

I haven’t even done any shopping, gotten my apartment for the next two months, taken any teas, done the theatre or dinning, or had any exciting activities. I’m not even going to go into the travelling costs to other countries.  Phew.  Well… a girl can dream, and that is what this exercise is all about now isn’t it?

Next post… My dream living quarters and a few of the must do’s while living in London!

leechSo as Robin Leech always said, “Here’s to Champagne Dreams and Caviar wishes!” (or was it the other way around?)

(Yes I was a shameless capitalist child of the 80’s!)
